July 29, 1998 was the birth date of Great Commission Ministries International.  Through a long and arduous battle for the minds and hearts of men and women in the Spanish speaking communities of North Atlanta, seven distinct Bible studies became one when on Easter Sunday 1999, in celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, they met together for the very first time.

Our first meeting took place at the Best Western Hotel in Roswell, GA and continued there for more than three years. It was our first place to meet together as a group of mostly new believers.  It was the first place we celebrated the Lord’s Table together; it was the first time and place we felt and shared the joy of being a part of the family of God together. It was in this place that our first new believers were baptized; our first wedding took place not to mention our first Thanksgiving celebration and outreach which saw 150 people enjoy the wonderful table together which was a provision from the hand of the Lord.

Continue on with me for a taste of what God has done as we trace the footprints of Jesus in establishing His church through GCMI-enlasameircas; La Iglesia Comunidad Cristiana.

(Some text will appear in both English and Spanish.

Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it…..

As of June of 2002 GCMI and La Iglesia Comunidad Crisitana began renting space at the 205 Market Place building which is located in the very heart of one of the largest Spanish speaking populations in our state, Roswell, GA.  We started by renting the top floor but by the end of the year 2002 we had out grown the space so we took on one forth of the first floor to meet our growing need.

We began asking the Lord for the resources for the purchase of this building which will require a zoning modification and changes to the building to meet the new code restrictions.  We did our due diligence to see what would be required, if the Lord were to provide  the needed funds. The Lord did not see fit to provide this wish.  That is ok, we know His will is good, acceptable and perfect.

But having the use of more space would enhance the scope of our ministry to the Spanish speaking population.  We were already doing English as a second language classes but wished to extend our ministry to include tutoring of high-school students who are having trouble with their classes because of poor English.  Many quit school only to become wards of the street which leads to all manner of evil.

(God in His wisdom led us to move our English as a second language program from the church site into an apartment complex that is virtually filled with Spanish speaking people.  Our group has grown, and classes are now extended to three nights each week.  How numerous are the plans the Lord has for those who wait on Him and His timing.)

Other services we wish to host and facilitate include but are not limited to English and tutoring but would include: a counseling center for drug and alcohol abuse; counseling for other abuse and addictive behavior such as anger management, and violence in the family.  Access to a larger space will accomodate a Christian Book Store (Spanish titles only.) which will facilitate the growth of the people in our church but reach out into the commuity as well.

There would be no more need for renting the confernece room of the hotel down the street to host our out reach events like the one we just celebrated for Thanksgiving.

Ministry Update November 23, 2004

God has delivered a location very near to our present site and Lord willing we will be in the new location by August 1, 2004.

  • Payment of a rent equal to what we now pay but more space.
  • Payment of the utilities which we now pay.
  • *Upgrading of facility to meet fire code, safety and zoning requirements
  • *Remodeling of some spaces which will be used for offices and classrooms.

The items marked by the (*) were the items that you, your church, your Sunday-School or Bible study group took on as a missions projects.  It was here that we ask you to pray that God would work out the details of our move as it relates to our existing rental contract which had been included in the sale of the building.  Then ask the Lord how you personally can be involved or lead other to be involved in the items listed above.  We wanted to be able to move by August 1, 2004.

We coveted as always only your prayers for God's good, acceptable and perfect will.

Psalms 83

83:1 God Implored to Confound His Enemies.

Adapted for this day 04 November 2008

A Song, a Psalm of Asaph.

O God, do not remain quiet; do not be silent and, O God, do not be still. 2 For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, And those who hate You have exalted themselves. 3 They make shrewd plans against Your people, and conspire together against Your treasured ones. 4 They have said, "Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." 5 For they have conspired together with one mind; against You they make a covenant: 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites; 7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assyria also has joined with them; They have become a help to the children of Lot. Selah.

9 Deal with them as with Midian, as with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon, 10 who were destroyed at En-dor, who became as dung for the ground. 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, 12 who said,

" Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God."

13 O my God, make them like the whirling dust, like chaff before the wind. 14 Like fire that burns the forest and like a flame that sets the mountains on fire. 15 So pursue them with Your tempest and terrify them with Your storm. 16 Fill their faces with dishonor, that they may seek Your name, O Lord. 17 Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever, and let them be humiliated and perish, 18 that they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.

NASU

This Election Day should be a day for the Christian community to arm itself with this

wonderful prayer for the protection of the unborn child and the protection of the

institution of marriage as ordained by God from the beginning.  This community is under attack around the world as well a in our own country.  We should vote with a moral conscience.

Salmo 83
